“Just as in nature, systems of order govern the growth and the structure of animate and inanimate matter, so human activity itself has, since the earliest times, been distinguished by the quest for order.”
— Josef Muller-Brockmann
As I wrapped up my class on Publication Design with the Masters students of Regular and Online batch (Students -Tanmay Agrawal, Debarati Ghosh) from IITH yesterday, it gave so many areas of discussions and thoughts that it went on to a series of questions where the students started to go back in time and were wondering how the early 50’s and 60’s graphic designs were made. One of the key thing of discussion was this poster from Beethoven concert.

In the below video, hear the designer himself explaining his thought process and mathematical constructions used for his work and how the poster of Beethoven – where the designer represented Music..had connection to form, rhythm, movement and dynamic aspects of music itself. The concentric nature reveals how music changes and repeats in itself.
